At Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios, Inc., we’ve been creating custom works of art in glass since 1976. All-be-it-true that our most popular items are entry door and window glass, the second area that is “runner up”, is our decorative glass for bathrooms.
Every bathroom has a few certain items, that are already glass .. that can be transformed into personalized, custom designed creations to suit any preference or style, complimenting any decor. From contemporary glass, to various glass patterns and etched and carved textures, Sans Soucie creates an unlimited array of design styles.
Sans Soucie Art Glass Studios etches and carves the glass surface by sandblasting the glass. (Sans Soucie does NOT do any acid etching or any kind of machine or laser etching). A little lesson about sandblasting:
Sandblasted glass is a surface treatment produced by using compressed air to spray the glass with an abrasive to roughen one or both surfaces. Sandblasting the surface diffuses transmitted light, reduces glare and gives the glass a “frosted” appearance. The glass can either be etched or carved solid or with shading, which is where we leave clear areas in the glass.
“ETCHED GLASS” is a generic term for the treatment of the glass surface to diffuse transmitted light, reduce glare and give the glass a white, frosted appearance. Sans Soucie etches the glass using sandblasting. “Etching” the glass (vs. carving), means that we sandblasted the glass enough to affect the glass surface only. Etching does not go deep into the glass and creates a one-dimensional effect. “CARVED GLASS” has been sandblasted DEEPER into the surface, creating a three-dimensional sculpted image, carving a relief design, creating a much more detailed effect, obtaining differing depths within the carved image. The carved EDGES within the image will actually appear whiter and brighter, as they pick up and reflect the surrounding light. The image will appear three dimensional, as if it is floating within the glass.
